Short answer: A UGC pitch email should connect a specific content idea to a real sample of your work and ask for one clear next step. Personalise the reason for contacting the brand; do not promise sales, claim relationships you do not have or send a generic wall of credentials.

What can you put in a first UGC pitch email?
Use the following as a fill-in writing exercise, then remove every placeholder before sending. It is an original example, not an email we claim has won a client.
Subject: [Specific content idea] for [brand or product]
Hi [name or team],
I noticed [a specific, accurate product or content detail]. I create [format you actually make], and I have an idea for a [format] showing [concrete viewer question or product demonstration].
Here is a relevant example: [direct portfolio sample link]. I handled [your actual role]; it is [spec work / commissioned work, as true].
Are you currently considering creators for content like this? If so, I can send a short outline and discuss the deliverables and usage.

Later’s brand-pitching guidance also emphasises researching the brand and explaining the value of a proposed collaboration. The worksheet here focuses specifically on matching a production idea to visible portfolio evidence.
How do you make the pitch specific without inventing a claim?
Use an observable detail and a demonstrable skill. Replace assumptions about a brand’s performance with a concrete proposal you can explain.
Observation
Write the exact page, product or post you reviewed and what is visibly there. “Your product page explains the compartments” is an observation. “Your ads are failing” is an unsupported performance claim unless you have actual evidence.
Concept
Describe one scene or question. In an illustrative bag pitch, that might be showing how a particular item fits into the compartments. Do not promise a sales lift or invent product capabilities.
Evidence
Link the closest genuine sample and name what it proves: overhead filming, an on-camera explanation or editing a clear demonstration. If it is spec work, say so.
Next step
Ask whether the idea is relevant and offer to discuss scope. Save a detailed quote for when deliverables and usage are clear. The rate-card worksheet helps capture those boundaries.
How do you pitch with no previous clients?
Pitch from the work you can show, and state that self-directed samples are spec work. You can describe your filming or editing contribution without presenting yourself as an established agency or inventing brand partnerships.
Use: “This is a self-directed product-demo sample. I planned, filmed and edited it.” Avoid: “I helped this brand grow” when no such engagement occurred. If you do not yet have a relevant sample, use the beginner spec-brief worksheet before sending a pitch.
What should you check before sending the portfolio link?
Check the factual claim, sample access and intended recipient before sending. A polished message cannot compensate for a broken or irrelevant sample.
Copy this record: Recipient’s published contact route [ ] · Specific observation and source [ ] · Proposed concept [ ] · Matching sample [ ] · Role/spec label [ ] · Link tested while signed out [ ] · Clear question [ ] · All placeholders removed [ ]. Respect the recipient’s stated contact preferences and requests not to hear from you again.
If you follow up, add useful context or clarify the idea; do not invent urgency or pretend a previous conversation happened. Keep your own record of the actual response. No reply, a positive reply and a paid project are different outcomes.
Use the portfolio checklist to prepare the destination. The asset comparison explains when a supporting media kit or deck is useful.
